This qualification reflects the role of individuals who are either currently engaged in leadership roles in industry, or are developing as emerging leaders, supervisors and managers.
These individuals assume responsibility and accountability for their own and their team’s performance, they provide leadership, guidance, direction and support to their team and others.
They will have responsibility for organising and monitoring the output of their team, along with team cohesion, collaboration and meeting KPIs. They apply solutions to a defined range of problems (predictable and unpredictable) and analyse and evaluate information from a variety of sources.
There are 12 units of competency to complete for the full qualification, which are listed overleaf.
After achieving this qualification learners may undertake further learning in BSB50420 Diploma of Leadership and Management.
Recommended For
The full qualification is recommended for existing and emerging leaders in roles such as Manager, Superintendent, Supervisors, Leading Hands, for individuals running their own small business, or people playing a coach or leadership role in the community eg sports coach.
Entry Requirements
There are no pre-requisites for this qualification.
Of the 12 units required to complete this qualification, five (5) are compulsory (core) and seven (7) electives, which can be selected from a wide range of business and related units. A sample course structure follows:
Module 1 – Effective Leadership
Module 2 – Leading Effective Teams
Module 3 – Leading Team Performance
Module 4 – Leading Safety and Risk
Modularised Program
This course is presented in four (4) modules. Each module consists of three (3) units of competency. Units have been clustered for effective learning and integrated assessment.
Learning Arrangements
This qualification is delivered through workplace-based learning. The program is highly customised for the workplace, incorporating policies, procedures, forms and values of the business.
A training schedule will be arranged with the workplace. The Skilling WA Trainer/Assessor, will conduct training on a monthly basis. Training will be classroom based and incorporate experiential learning, individual and group activities.
The Skilling WA Trainer/Assessor can also provide support over the phone, email or face-to-face as required, in between classroom delivery times.
Assessments
All assessments are competency based. Learners will be assessed against each unit of competency as well as the full qualification.

Skills Recognition / Credit Transfer
The process of Skills Recognition (Recognition of Prior Learning and/or Recognition of Current Competencies) gives those people with the relevant experience the opportunity to gain formal recognition for their competencies (skills and knowledge) gained through life, work and study, regardless of where, when and how they were achieved.
Participants are responsible for gathering evidence that will show they have the required competencies to the standard set out by the industry in the National Competency Standards.
If you have already completed some of the units of this qualification elsewhere, please provide us with a copy of your certificates for a direct exemption.
